In August, our 25-year-old Agave filifera shot up a four-meter-high inflorescence in the California room. Starting from the bottom, thousands of greenish flowers with yellow stamens will bloom during late summer and autumn and hopefully some of them will bear fruit.

The thread agave is one of about twenty agave species found in the Edvard Anderson Conservatory. It grows wild in eastern Mexico, but is also grown as an ornamental plant in areas with a mild climate.
