The phylogeny of Urophylleae and Lasiantheae

Phylogenetic relationships among and within the basal lineages of Rubioideae are poorly known. My research in Rubiaceae focuses on the two clades Urophylleae and Lasiantheae. Both groups have a pantropical distribution and contain about 200 species of trees and shrubs each. I use molecular phylogenetic methods to address questions relating to biogeography, character evolution, and taxonomy. The phylogenies will also be used to estimate when important evolutionary events took place, and to seek evolutionary and ecological mechanisms behind morphological variation, species richness, and geographical patterns.

My Ph.D. thesis dealt with the phylogeny of Geum and its relatives (Rosaceae, Colurieae), and allopolyploid evolution within this group. I have also done postdoc at the Swedish Museum of Natural History, working with the phylogeny of Sapotoideae (Sapotaceae) in collaboration with Arne A. Anderberg, a project which is still ongoing.
